3 March 1985 - the beginning of the end?

Just a slightly political post again. 3rd March 1985 was when the 1984/85 Miners Strike - the longest and bitterest strike in recorded history - was lost. Thatcher could now do pretty much anything she wanted. Trade Unionism and Socialism were dead and the UK would never be the same again.

A different night in Reddish on Friday. Few pubs, mediocre beer and low-level anarchy that got worse as the night progressed. Still, the UK is in for interesting times ahead so sit back and enjoy the show...

Reddish was certainly different. A little bit of chaos and mayhem but it wasn't so bad that I felt threatened. You could say though that things are getting better if you look back in history...

Shiz, I can't think of many places in the world that have got worse over the last 200 years.

Towns like Reddish probably haven't got worse over the last 10 years or so, but they've definitely got worse over the last 30 years. I'm not saying there are murders and stabbings every night, just a slow increase of low-level anti social behaviour, vandalism, a few more kicked-in bus shelters etc etc.

I blame too many liberal ideas, the distruction of British Industry and the complete undermining of authority and disipline.
