A nation of shoppers

Shopping seems to becoming an increasing obsession these days. Can anyone explain to me exactly what the pleasure of going to the shops with 100 000 other people in order to hunt for non-existant 'bargains' is?

News reports indicate that people started queuing up for the 'sales' at midnight on Christmas night. Madness. Even the Americans aren't as shopping-obsessed as us barmy Brits!

Tha surprises me too. Mid-night seems a bit obsessive. But if people get off doing that there must be a reason or else why go back for more? Perhaps were missing out, Tho I would much rather not shop the last thing I bought it the last 3 years has been my new astro boot everthing else is bought for me. Bliss. Midnight you say.

Couldn't agree more with the sentiment. I think that more and more people seem to have become addicted to shopping for whatever reason (lack of self confidence / boredom?) that they buy stuff in an attempt to make them happy... of course, just lick all addictions, the high is short lived, and when the low comes, the only way these people have to deal with it is to go shopping again. More worrying is that usually this is done on borrowed money too... eventually this will cause a recession in our economy, I don't know when, but I see no other outcome from this.
